New Releases! Domaine Vincent Carême wines from 2018, 2019 & 2020 vintages
We are pleased to announce that Domaine Vincent Carême wines from 2018, 2019 & 2020 vintages have landed this week.
Vincent Carême is a young winemaker based in Vouvray, France. He started from scratch in 1999, and currently manages 14 hectares. His wines use organic methods, where the main focus is in the vineyard, by improving soil health and avoiding industrial elements.
The estate makes a full range of wines: sparkling, sec, moelleux, and the majority of the grapes are farmed by him.
Vouvray Region is the most famous and respected appellation of the Loire Valley’s growing region. It includes white Chenin Blanc wines of multiple styles such as sweet wine, dry, still and sparkling. Eight villages are around the medieval town of Vouvray, which is based on the northern banks of the Loire river. In fact, the most common variety used in the region is Chenin Blanc, and in very small quantities Menu Pineau.
2018 Domaine Vincent Carême Sec
This wine scored 92 on Wine Spectator: “Elegant and silky, but with a chalky mineral crunch behind the notes of persimmon, vanilla spice, daisy and honeydew. Hints of cardamom and savory minerals add to the complexity as this firms up on the long, mouthwatering finish. Best from 2022 through 2033”.
And, 91 points on Wine Enthusiast Magazine: “Right at the dry end of the useful scale on the back label of the bottle, this wine is, however, soft and full of fruit. With its acidity still developing, the wine’s future is assured. Drink from 2021”.
2018 Domaine Vincent Carême Molleaux
We are very excited to learn that this wine scored 17.5 from Jancis Robinson: “Elegant and silky, but with a chalky mineral crunch behind the notes of persimmon, vanilla spice, daisy and honeydew. Hints of cardamom and savory minerals add to the complexity as this firms up on the long, mouthwatering finish”.
“…best from 2022 through 2033. Fudge and apple-pie nose – rich and seductive. Yet much tighter and fresher in the mouth. The apple-pie and buttery flaky-pastry notes are cut with lime, under-cut by lime leaf and cobnuts. A lovely savoury underlay. And galangal: root, spice, tang, cool-heat. Lots of texture, like the tug of an old silk curtain. And edgy, baobab-tangy mouth-filling acidity. Seville oranges sewing in a fine seam of bitterness, fresh blanched almonds bringing cream and density. Complex, exciting, beautifully balanced, and beautifully refreshing. The perfect pork-roast wine (failing that, a packet of top-quality pork scratchings will do…)”.
Cameron Douglas scored this wine 93 points, “Aromas and baked apple, white peach and white apricot, there’s a wet chalky soil mineral layer and white flowers with a fine lees suggestion adding to the complexity. Off-dry on the palate with a lovely acid line for contrast and flavours that reflect the bouquet. The mineral line and baked apple chalky qualities showcase what Vouvray is all about. Great drinking from 2022 through 2028+”
2019 Domaine Vincent Carême L’Ancestrale
This is a 100% Chenin Blanc with very fine bubbles. L’Ancestrale develops aromas of fresh nougat and subtle smoky notes. Great aromatic freshness, slender and smooth material, very fine bubbles, all in purity. A true pleasure!
Candice Chow, 93 points. “Bright, even, pale yellow with a light green hue. The bubbles are vibrant and consistent. The bouquet is full, creamy, underlying stonefruit, citrus, floral and yeasty elements. Medium-bodied, dry to taste, aromas of peach, apricot and lemon melded with ginger, bread dough and whipped cream. Chalky minerals cling to the side of the palate and leave a silky mouthfeel. The fruit shows purity and balanced ripeness; creamy features broaden the body and weight. This L’Ancestrale is well-made, shows excellent fruit and mineral details, and has a creamy, pleasing finish. Match with creamy chicken pie and white fish with beurre blanc over the next 2-3 years. 100% Chenin Blanc, made from Methode Ancestrale, 13% alc”.
2020 Domaine Vincent Carême Le Clos
This wine is 100% Chenin Blanc and fermented by indigenous yeasts. Pale gold. An aromatic nose offering white flowers, peaches and pears. Ripe white fruit and citrus flavours balanced by a racy acidity
Bob Campbell, 94 points. “A very attractive Vouvray that offers a pleasurable contrast of ripe (apricot) and less ripe (green apple) flavours as well as a contrast between moderate sweetness and refreshing acidity. Great cellaring potential”
2020 Domaine Vincent Carême Sec
This is also a 100% Chenin Blanc and fermented by indigenous yeasts. Yellow in colour with brilliant green highlights. Expressive and fruity with hints of peach. Straightforward, structured and long. Fruit hints show peaches and pear.
