The Dhall & Nash Newsletter 2025

Welcome to 2025. The previous year has confirmed to me that Dhall & Nash occupies a unique position within the New Zealand beverage industry. I believe that no other entity places as much emphasis as we do on provenance or has such a holistic, joyful and deep understanding of both the old and new wine World. This leads to a remarkable, delicious, diverse and unique wine collection.

In 2024 we ensured that we respected and focused on these aforementioned core attributes whilst also remaining agile and innovative. As such we nurtured and grew both our exclusive wine portfolio and fine wine cellar list. Additionally we also grew our fine spirits portfolio as well as introducing some delicious low and no alcohol options. In all this we stayed true to our core values of always respecting those who create wonders by patiently loving, toiling and knowing their small piece of Earth through the generations. We always worked hard to connect you to these wonderful products through education, experience and communication so that in the end you and your customers may truly appreciate and of course indulge in these wonders.

Billecart-Salmon

This year we saw the distinctive quality of Maison Billecart-Salmon improve yet again to make Billecart a serious contender as the greatest luxury Champagne Brand. The Non Vintage Brut is now aged an additional twelve months on lees to seven years in total which is truly extraordinary and you can taste the difference. In 2024 I traveled the country and for the first time ever opened up some of our limited allocations in our ‘Wines of Distinction’ series. This included some of the greatest offerings from Billecart including the 2008 Nicholas Francois (Wine of the Millennium) and 2005 Clos St Hilaire.

And we also introduced into the range the Billecart ‘1818’ range which has opened up many new opportunities.

The All New Classic Billecart

Bogle Family Vineyard

The quality of our wines from California continued to shine and of course the premium wines of Bogle Family Vineyard continued to shine as well deserved category leaders. There is no other barrel fermented chardonnay that can meet the lusciousness, length and price point of the Bogle Chardonnay range. One of our greatest experiences of the year was to have the enigmatic Jody Bogle join us on live link at our ‘Sip n Savour’ event – A Bogle Dinner 15 Storeys up in the incredible dining room in the sky at So Hotel in Auckland Central

Our Suppliers

I believe that our portfolio of exclusive wine brands is now unparalleled in New Zealand. A big thank you to all of our wine partners (and your incredible allocations which you are so kind to include with Dhall & Nash). Our New Zealand whanau of winemakers are absolutely incredible. We held a fabulous Whanau ‘mini fair’ in Wellington in September. This blend with our International partners makes for delicious products with great stories to excite the most ardent of wine collectors and to those ‘newbies’ entering the arena of fine wines. The Dhall & Nash blog is constantly exposing these products and stories.

Fine & Rare

Our fine & rare wine collection continued to grow in 2024 and I believe that we now have one of the finest collections (with provenance) available to be purchased. I had some very enjoyable moments with the collection through the year. I decided to open up some of the finest and rarest of New Zealand wines at an incredible dinner at Otahuna Lodge in Christchurch in April.

These wines really did shine and showed that the greatest of our own wines are showing depth, quality and the ability to age gracefully and deliciously. On another occasion we opened up some fine Burgundy at the beautiful Origine restaurant.

And we can’t forget being in the presence of a real Count – Count Cinzano of Col D’orcia tasting his unbelievable Brunello di Montalcino’s including the 1982 Riserva.

On the subject of fine & rare, many products deserve the limelight but one is very emblematic of what can happen when people truly understand just how special a wine is…

Seven years after ushering the enchanting Champagne André Clouet into our portfolio with their Grande Réserve, we were allocated 120 bottles of their new premium Blanc de Blancs cuvée: Chalky, and we were excited to sing from the rooftops about it. We were notified at 10:15am on Friday 3rd May that the stock was in, and by 12:30 it had sold out, purely by word-of-mouth. Tyson Stelzer had warned us, “For those in the know, the rare cuvées of André Clouet are immensely sought-after. You can’t buy these champagnes year-round in Australia, because they quickly sell out as soon as a shipment lands.”

We were pleasantly surprised, and thrilled when André Clouet kindly offered us another allocation of this stellar champagne to arrive in September… which then also sold out. Clearly a winner. We now have another allocation in the pipeline, so stay tuned for 2025’s Chalky landing.

Provenance

In regards to our Provenance we are proud that we have one of the largest temperature controlled cellars in New Zealand.

Based at our warehouse in Auckland, my investment in his state of the art temperature controlled facility has really been a game changer, giving me absolute confidence that every wine comes to your door in the best possible condition. Only then will the customer have any chance of experiencing the dizzying sensory heights that can be achieved by great wines

Coravin

And in conjunction with this the Coravin range of wine preservation accessories has also brought a whole new dimension to how one can experience great wines. Every glass shown at its best with no wastage. The inclusion of the Coravin Pivot and Coravin Sparkling wine preservation system means that every wine you serve can be perfect.

Spirits

This is the year we also decided to get serious about Spirits. Already having one of the greatest Cognac producers with Hine in the portfolio did not hinder this process, but meeting Keith Bonnington Independent bottler of rare Whiskies was serendipity. The Whisky Cellar is one of the greatest range of Independent bottlings ever made. Watch out for the Single Malt ‘Robusto’ arriving in April and a little taste at the revered dramfest in Christchurch in March.

Working with the talented Luis Cabrera of Besos Margarita brought a whole new orbit to the Dhall & Nash Universe, and I can testify after a thoroughly enjoyable New Years Eve with the newly released Besos Habanero Margarita’s contributing significantly to the occasion.

Low & No

We also have devoted space to low and no alcs with the inclusion of locally produced Anthea and Oravida artesian sparkling water.

The Dhall & Nash team is instrumental in delivering these possibilities to you. Our team is the foundation to our success and I am truly blessed to have great people around me at Dhall & Nash
